Weekend Program

A full, fun weekend in Port Townsend is planned, with much to do for athletes and their family and friends. In addition to our many and varied boat related activities, the area offers a whole lot more. For example, check out www.northwestvineyardtours.com.

Saturday, June 19

10:00 Sound Rowers hosts the annual Rat Island Regatta. This is an 8 mile race for any human-powered boat. The course is more protected than the course for Sunday’s championship race. This could be a great warmup and a fun chance to race in a different boat than you’re racing on Sunday. See www.soundrowers.org for details. Note: there is no pre-registration for this race. Instead, registration will be handled on the beach before the race. Just show up (exact change would be great!) and get your race number. Registration begins at 7:00. The mandatory pre-race meeting is at 9:15.

11:30 ish The Rat Island Rowing and Sculling club hosts a potluck meal at the finish of the Rat Island Regatta.

Noon to 5:00 Tour the Northwest Maritime Center and browse their Chandlery.

1:30 to 4:00 ish Sunday racers may take a yacht tour of the NAOWRC race course. Check out landmarks and verify waypoints.

2:00 to 5:00 What is it like to row a boat built for racing across the Atlantic? Find out by taking a short spin in the JRH, located at Point Hudson. A $50 free will contribution towards this 2011 adventure is recommended.

4:30 to 5:30 Tour the Pocock Classic wooden shell project with Steve Chapin, Master Craftsman at his Point Hudson Boat Shop.

4:00 to 6:00 Pick up race registration packages at the boathouse on ground level of the Northwest Maritime Center. Sunday lunch tickets ($20 each) for family members, friends and spectators are for sale. Kids under age 12 eat free.

5:30 to 9:00 check out the great movies at The Rose Theater (a local sponsor!)
