Positions in Red are either floating or fixed aids to navigation (AtoN) or other fixed, solid objects. Use caution when approaching these objects (especially if you have set the position in your GPS without an offset to allow you to clear the object).
The positions listed for McCurdy Pt Buoy 4 and Pt Wilson Buoy 6 are taken from the 2010 Light List (which cautions that “Positions are approximate and only intended to facilitate locating the aid on a chart.”). All other positions are taken from an electronic chart published by NOAA using Coastal Explorer software. Verify all positions yourself.
Positions given for turns near the shore such as Turns #1 and #2 may not be appropriate turning points on the day of the race if weather and tide conditions dictate otherwise. Extreme caution should be used when approaching those turns.
The Kelp turn buoy (Turn #3) will be placed on the day of the race to reduce the possibility of entanglement in kelp and may be noticeably different from the listed position if the kelp beds dictate. Use caution in that area since kelp can move with currents. All other tetrahedron buoys will be placed as close to the published positions as possible, but may not be exactly in those positions due to wind, current, etc. Use caution.
